Tequila Reserva 1800 Reposado takes its name from the historic first year of tequila being aged in wood. Made from 100% agave, 1800 tequila is ”rested” in French oak barrels for 2 to 11 months, adding a rich flavor. Stated on the bottle, it was awarded first place in 2005 at the Mexican Academy of Tequila.
Uncorking the bottle and taking a deep whiff gives that very distinctive tequila aroma followed by a strong rubbing alcohol smell that is not for the faint of heart. It is most definitely 80 proof tequila. Whew! Down the hatch! You get that in your face tequila flavor that bites you up front and then goes down smooth. It’s not the smoothest I’ve had, but it’s still nice. It follows up with a spiciness in your mouth that only Mexican food and drinks can produce. It is quite nice.
Mixing it with Sprite© gives it more sweetness and takes some of the edge off, but it still says “Hey gringo, I’m still here!” The 1800 does not play very well with soft drinks. Just a couple of drinks later and I was definitely feeling that 40% by volume working its magic. It definitely does the trick. Even a few hours after the drinking stopped, the 1800 tequila would not release its grip on my body. It packs an extended punch. The next morning I awoke with the standard issue hangover - not miserable or wishing I was dead … just kind of feeling … blah.
The 1800 tequila has a strong aroma and flavor that gets the job done and lets you know that you are most definitely drinking tequila. Although I prefer drinking smoother, top-shelf tequilas, drinking the 1800 was not an all-together unpleasant experience.
Weighing in at $27 a bottle, this tequila delivers what one would expect at a price that won’t break the bank as far as tequilas go.

i think this stuff holds up well against everything in its price range…so unless you are gonna lay down 50$ or more just get 1800…or better yet lay down 50$ and get two bottles of 1800.
