Liquor Review: PAMA

PAMA Liqueur      PAMA pomegranate liqueur is made from pomegranate juice, premium vodka, and a touch of imported tequila. It is brought to us by PAMA Spirits Company in Bardstown, Kentucky.  PAMA, the world’s first true pomegranate liqueur, captures the complex, sweet yet tart taste and seductive color of all-natural California pomegranates.

Pomegranates are not just a healthy super fruit chock-full of antioxidants; they will also get you drunk!  Well … not really, but we’ll get to that shortly.  They should change their slogan to something like “PAMA – the liqueur choice of health-conscious people.”  I know what you’re thinking, “is there finally a healthy alcoholic drink out there for you and me?”  Sure, you can think whatever you want.  All I know is that it’s mighty tasty, and that’s good enough for me.

The first sniff of the bottle smells of pomegranates (duh), a hint of cranberry tartness, and a little grape.  The smell is sweet without the strong alcohol smell found in some liqueurs. Health food shouldn’t smell this good.  It could be dangerous, but this is not the case with only 17% alcohol. The first sip is a little misleading.  It tastes like tart candy, but then follows through with a mild alcohol burn we are all familiar with.  The tartness lingers on your tongue and makes you want more.  You never thought that healthy alcohol could taste this good.

Mix in a little Sprite© and this health nectar really shines.  Wow!  That’s a good drink.  Even the ladies love it!  Imagine the good impression you will make when you bring a lovely lady a drink that tastes great and tells her you were keeping her health in mind.

The only downside to my night with PAMA pomegranate liqueur was the lack of drunkenness after four of these tasty beverages.  However, I did feel a lot healthier. Not a whole lot going on with the exception of a sugar buzz, which makes it kind of hard to keep a steady hand when playing an intense game of cutthroat Jenga!  The upside was the complete absence of a hangover the next day.  The only aftermath was the headache from my sugar crash. Maybe there’s something to the healthy, alcoholic thing…

Coming in at $32 a bottle, it’s pricey for a liqueur that makes an excellent mixer.  But then again, most of your good liqueurs fall in that category, so drink up!  Remember, it’s for your health, and you can’t put a price tag on that, can you?  (Note – this liqueur will not actually make you healthier.  Fermentation destroys most or all of the healthy properties of pomegranate juice.)

Wasn’t really enjoyable, but not terrible. I didn’t care too much for the lingering bitter after taste. Strong pomegranate/cranberry flavor with a lingering bitterness. Could have been a little sweeter and maybe slightly higher alchohol content…not that your planning to get hammered on this stuff. You could get a better drink by simply mixing pomegranatee juice and vodka. Just imagine the possibilities; antioxidants in your booze…kinda like ground-up diet pills on your double quarter pounder.

Looks like your question thing at the end of the post worked. Also not having to sign in is nice too. Good job. Nice list. Thanks.
