FAQs

What criteria do you use to define “Top Shelf” and “Well Drink”?

We designate any liquor $28 and above to be “Top Shelf” and anything $27.99 and below as a “Well Drink”.  Yes, $28 may seem little high, but we felt like Crown Royal should be the pinnacle of the well drinks.  We also would like to believe that we have high standards, in liquor at least.

What makes you think you can all be self proclaimed experts on liquor taste and quality?

We are not experts by any stretch of the imagination.  However, we do have plenty of experience drinking liquor.  Honestly, would you rather get an opinion from some average joes or some snooty stuck-up types?

What drinks do you use for your standard mixability tests?

We have different drinks for each of the different categories of liquor.  Why? Because gin and coke would be god awful no matter what gin is used.  The drinks are as follows:

Bourbon - Coke© or Sprite©

Cognac - Depends on the Cognac, but Coke© or a juice.

Gin - Martini and/or Gin and tonic

Grain - The preferred mixer is Hawaiian punch or anything else we can come up with to disguise the fact that you are drinking pure alcohol.

Liqueurs - These vary by the particular flavor. We will let you know what we tried in the review.

Rum - Coke© or various juices.

Scotch - Mixing with anything other than ice or a splash of cold water is a sin.  A little known fact is that this would have been the 8th deadly sin, but the church had an obsession with the number 7, possible due to gambling addictions.

Tequila - Sprite© or margarita mix.

Vodka - Sprite© or a juice

Whiskey - Coke©

So what’s the deal with the girls used for the chick-appeal test?

Yes, we use real live girls.  None are inflatable; all possess qualities that are pleasing to the superficial male (a.k.a. the staff of BoozeBasher.com).  We even found some with personalities.

What the heck is your liquor of the month, and why isn’t it just the highest-rated liquor of the previous month?

The liquor of the month is a single spirit chosen by our BoozeBasher panel of experts as the consensus favorite liquor of the month.  This may not be the highest-rated liquor. The mothly winner of our prestigious award could also be the most pleasantly suprising liquor reviewed in the prior month.  This is an “all things considered” choice by our reviewers.
